1995 Miata – Another Go-Kart

Many years ago, well before marriage and adulthood settled in, I had a 1994 Miata that was violently taken away from me when a fellow failed to stop and creamed me as I crossed an intersection. Fast forward several years, and I felt the yearning for another one. After searching for several months, I came across a California-Arizona raised 1995 Miata that had made its way to the Midwest.

The 1st generation (NA) Miata’s are prone to some nasty rust here in the Midwest, so finding a clean example was rare. So you can imagine how happy I was to find this gem up here.

Given the unknown history of any used car, I did my due diligence in brining things back up to my mechanical standards. For this car, it included a timing belt job, water pump swap, Cam Shaft Sensor O ring, and some other odds and sods

The leaking O ring which was causing quite a mess under the car:

After bringing everything up to speed, the Miata was pressed into Daily Driver duty for quite some time. It also made a few appearances at the local auto-x track for grins:

And no, I wasn’t very fast:

As with all my cars, this one eventually had to be sent down the road as well. This one due to the pending arrival of our 1st born son. The first generation of the Miata did not have the option to turn off the passenger side air bag like the later generations did. So a car seat was a no go in this one unless I wanted to yank the airbag out. While I was willing to do that, the practical side of me said it was probably better to just let this one go:

So this ended my stent with another fun car, I’d like to think that I would buy another one some day, but I think it would be more along the lines of “toy car” status rather than DD status. As there were times where it was a bit tedious driving it back and forth to work. I might be getting old 🙂
