Off Road Trips

ORT – Interlake 12/28/09

A friend and myself played hooky today and ran out to the Interlake Park. For future reference, its about 155 miles (2 hr 15 mins) to the park from where we live. This is the first time we’d been to the park since it opened.

The Good:
Huge Park, over 3 k acres
Former strip mine area, similar to landscape of another strip mine area we know.
Scenic, fairly easy drives, but more than a few places to bang you up.

The Bad:
Trail markings will hopefully get better as time progress (not that they’re too bad right now, but it’s not real easy to navigate at this point).
Lots of low lands to catch water (read, if it has been raining like crazy, you’re going to have plenty of mud).
Grounds are used for hunting as well (not necessarily a bad thing, but be mindful of hunters). We bypassed a large portion of the park as there were several hunters going after waterfowl

Would we go back?
Yup! We spent the better part of the day there, and only covered the northern portion of the park. We’ll head back in the spring to go investigate the “Mid” portion.

On with the photos!

We started the day out cruising down I64 (the park is right off the interstate)
