The Mighty Merc – No IFS, ands, or buts! Removing the IFS

One of the big days has arrived! It’s time to really commit to this project, by hacking off some parts that would be incredibly hard to put back on. By the time I remembered to grab the camera, I had already unbolted a large portion of stuff (knuckles, control arms, etc). Which left me with this:

A few more bolts and the front drive train was on the ground:

A little sawzall action liberated the rack from its home:

Prior to lopping off the main cross member, I whipped up a radiator guard and brace to keep the frame rails from shifting too much before I got around to tying everything else together.

All that netted me a nice pile of parts to drop off for scrap. Adiós IFS junk that’s been nothing but a headache!
