COLORADO AND UTAH TRIP– DAY 7

Day 7 of our trip found us at Bob’s place again for breakfast before we headed out to drive the Hagerman Pass Trail. The trail starts just outside Leadville and crosses the divide towards Basalt. The road mostly follows an old railroad grade including the remains of a train tunnel. The tunnel was completed in 1885 to cross the continental divide between Leadville and Aspen. At one time, a massive wooden trestle was located near the tunnel to switchback trains up the elevation to the…

COLORADO AND UTAH TRIP 2019 – DAY 6

We decided to try something different for breakfast this day and tried out Bobs Place in Avon. The kids and adults enjoyed it, and there were some Gluten Free options on the menu as well which worked well for Nana. We made a couple more stops here during our trip and would highly recommend it. We needed to take a break from hiking so we decided to try out some more of the 4WD roads in the Vail area. Our trail for the day was…

    Colorado and Utah Trip 2019

Travel Days 1 and 2 in the Mighty Merc It’s been way too long since we last had a blog post up! We have so much to share from our summer and fall adventures and want to start with all we saw, hiked, and climbed on our last westward adventure. Once again we found ourselves loading up and heading west for our family vacation. This year was a dual destination event with the bulk of our time being spent around the Avon, Colorado area with…

St. Louis Area Summer Fun List 2019

Each year I put together a list of fun St. Louis area places to go with the kids in the summer including museums, playgrounds, and parks. I also search though hundreds of events to come up with a good list of family friendly local events as well as vacation Bible schools. This list includes both sides of the river but the events are more focused on the Illinois side. I want to share this list with anyone who is interested so I added the files…

    Boo Memorial Garden 7-22-18

After hiking the Nature Trail at Giant City State Park (Link to that Post), we stopped by Boo Memorial Garden (Atlas Obscura Info) near Carbondale IL. Wow! We were completely blown away at how nicely maintained and well made this park was! Everything was sanded smooth (no splinters to when you bonk you head on something) and there was oodles of things for the kids to find as they ran through the castle. Absolutely worth the stop if you are pass through the area, especially…

Colorado 2017 in the Mighty Merc – Monday

After being cooped up in the truck for some time at this point, we figured that a break in the schedule was needed. We had planned on today being a hiking day with covering a bit of the Blue Lakes Trail, and the McCullough Gulch trail: But before we even got to the trail head, we had to stop at the Dillon Reservoir again for some sunrise photos: After seeing another beautiful sunrise, we set our sets on the Blue Lakes Trail hike, but I’m…
