🚂 The Monticello Railway Museum is an all volunteer museum in central Illinois that offers historic rolling train stock and train rides.
⠀
🚂 Visitors can take a train ride in historic coaches. Most weekends the coaches are pulled by a vintage diesel locomotive, but certain weekends offer a chance to see the 1907 steam locomotive in action. It is one of only four operational steam locomotives in the state.
⠀
🚂 The train rides offer a stop at the historic Wabash Depot in charming downtown Monticello. You can even get off at the depot and board a later train back to the museum.
⠀
🚂 The museum also features several other historic locomotives, coaches, and cabooses to view and explore. Don't miss the gift shop in the museum's Nelson depot.
⠀
The museum has special events such as:
🍩 Donut train: Enjoy breakfast & a train ride
🍴Dinner train: Enjoy a meal or take part in a murder mystery event aboard the train
❄️ Polar Express: This popular event is sold out for 2023 so plan for next year
🎅 Santa train; Enjoy lunch, a train ride, and a visit with Santa (tickets available)
🐰Bunny Eggspress: Enjoy an egg hunt, Easter Bunny, train ride, and gift bag
🚂 Railroad Days: We attended this event the past weekend which offers an all day ticket to ride on several different types of trains plus model trains and kid activities.
