SALT LICK POINT AND WATER RESERVE – VALMEYER, ILLINOIS

Salt Lick is located on the edge of Old Valmeyer in Illinois and is one of the few hill prairies left in Illinois. The three trails part of the Salt Lick system are:

  • The Johnson Trail which is 1.3 miles along the base of the bluff and is an easy walk
  • The Salt Lick Point Trail is 1.8 miles takes you to the top of the bluff so it is a bit steep at first, but affords beautiful views across the Mississippi River flood plain, including the St. Louis skyline.
  • The Newman trail is 1.9 miles which connects to both the Johnson and Salt Lick Point Trails.
