1995 F-250, the almost tow pig

As my 1987 XJ trail rig was getting less and less road worthy, I had the idea of getting a truck of my own to drag it to and from the trails, and possibly throw a camper on the back of it. About the same time, a friend was listing his 1995 F-250 7.3 for sale. I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the 7.3 having spent quite a bit of time behind the wheel of one playing dump truck driver in my youth. The price was right so I dragged it home:

The truck was a bit of a basket case, but the price was right. Prior to my friend purchasing it, the truck has spent a good deal of it’s life working for a landscaping company. So the interior was appropriately trashed. There was even a half eaten cheeseburger found under the seat :puke:

So out came the carpet and seat:

A junk yard seat, new steering column, and some time spent with the pressure washer had the interior looking good again!

A few other maintenance things like glow plugs, had the truck running like new again. It was then pressed into hauling duty. Many loads of rock were brought in when our shed was being built (the truck even hauled the shed kit itself):

There were many, many runs for firewood, tuck parts, and anything else I could think to stick I the back of this thing. The one thing it never hauled was a trailer! With the completion of our house projects that required a truck, I made the decision to let it go. Even though I didn’t really have a need or a use for it anymore, I was sad to see it leave:

Even though I can’t justify the cost of another diesel, I’d really like to own another one some day. There’s just something about them that tickles the fancy of the little kid in me.
