2002 Mustang GT – A bucket list car
This car was one of my bucket list cars. The “New Edge” body style of Mustang came out in my last years of high school, and I dearly wanted one at the time. It took several years before that dream was realized, and it was realized once I finished my last round of college:
It took awhile to find this car as there were quite a few “less than prime” examples on the market at the time. But the wait was worth it as this car wound up even being the right color (Sonic Blue). The New Edge mustangs are a mixed bag. Don’t get me wrong, they’re a solid platform, but it’s a bit dated. The three biggest complaints were the handling (dated suspension), cable clutch (VERY stiff), and a less than stellar stock seats. All of which can be fixed in the aftermarket at this point.
Toward the end of my ownership of the car, a friend backed into the front of the car which necessitated replacing the hood. The replacement (Cervins) hood left something to be desire in the fit and finish department, but from about 5’ away, it looked awesome:
And even with the 165k miles on it, the interior still looked new:
The car even made a couple of trips down to the local drag strip (Very cold days, no grip):
That two valve always sounded good to me while breathing through the flow master 40 series. The car was pretty much stock except for those mufflers and a steeda tri-ax shifter.
I often miss that car as the complaints I had with it are easily fixable either through the aftermarket or my own fabrication. There is a reasonable chance I might pick up another one in the future though….
