ORT – Flat Nasty 10-17-09 In the ’87 XJ
This was my second trip to Flat Nasty. I had aspirations of being able to wheel two days in a row, but breakage late in the day ended that fun thought.
The trip started out with a borrowed tow rig in O-Town…
In case anyone is wondering, the cabin down there is well worth it, though, with a lot of rain, it makes it a bit harder to get back there. Last week, it was about a 2’ crossing. For us, it was down to ~12”
Eventually, everyone wandered their way on down. There was some grilling action going on, and lots of heavy drinking which made for some fun times.
The next day began with a bit of a starter issue. Nothing a smack with a hammer couldn’t fix. Didn’t give me any troubles after that (except for this morning).
At some point, we decided to run trail 8(?) to go up the little waterfalls. Unfortunately, the Bronco blew a bead at the entrance to it. Even more unfortunately, the either trick failed to do what it needed to do, but it made for a brief show..
After that failure, we used a big guy and a ratchet strap to get the bead back on..
You can always count on good friends to help push you along…
And of course, I can’t go anywhere without getting hopelessly stuck at least once 😉
(High centered hard, couldn’t go anywhere. But I could spin it like a top for a bit)
And of course, a trip with the bronco isn’t complete, unless we try to dump it on its side. It was looking good here…
But it tried reeeeaaaal hard to go over a little further up…
All in good fun though..
Speaking of fun, the poor Bronco seemed to want to go back to its natural habitat after playing on the rocks all day ^_^ (Never got stuck though)…
For a guy that doesn’t like mud, he seemed to be having a good time 😉

He did make it up:
