❄️Check out this frozen fairytale come to life ❄️Check out this frozen fairytale come to life!

🎉 Having a February birthday can be tough for outdoor adventures, so heading to a Midwest ice castle was a perfect way to celebrate. 🏰
⠀
❄️ Ice Castles are a seasonal attraction at select cities each winter including two Midwest locations: Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and New Brighton, Minnesota.
⠀
❄️The Ice Castles are hand crafted by artists using thousands of carefully placed icicles plus tunnels, slides, igloos, fountains, sculptures, and more. The attraction is also illuminated at night with LED lights.
⠀
🌞 Unfortunately, the weather has not been ice friendly this year resulting in a limited season. There are still tickets available for a few dates at Lake Geneva, which is where we recently visited.
⠀
💲 Tickets for this year range from $17-$29. Kids under 4 are free.
⠀
👉 Tips to visit:
🌞 Try to time your visit to sunset if you can to see the ice castles both with light and lit up at night.
🛝 The lines for the big ice slide can get long. If you are able to visit on a weeknight, crowds may be less.
🛷 The ground is snow, strollers won't work here but you could pull littles on a sled.
🥶 Dress warm and bring hand and toe warmers. The first year we visited the windchill was below zero and it was rough. This time it was 32 degrees and much nicer!
🚻 Use the restroom before entering, there are no bathrooms inside the castle.
⠀
💾 SAVE this post and add this event to your bucket list!
I will post again late this year when tickets come up for the 2023-24 season if you can't make it this year.

❄️Have you ever visited an attraction like this?

🐺 We had a howling good time visiting @greatwol 🐺 We had a howling good time visiting @greatwolflodge in Gurnee, Illinois.

💦 Great Wolf is a chain of resorts with an indoor waterpark and activities, all designed with an outdoor woodland theme.
They have several locations in the U.S. including 7 in the Midwest!

🐺 This was our first time really visiting any indoor waterpark and the kids had a blast! Great Wolf really has designed this spot to be fun and family-friendly.

👉Tips to visit:

💲They always have special discount codes. Sign up for emails to receive special promotions or search online for Great Wolf Lodge coupon codes.

🗓️ If you can swing a weeknight, prices are way cheaper. No matter when you book, keep an eye on the prices as if they drop before your stay you can call or chat to receive the cheaper rate! The price on our Friday night stay dropped before our trip and we were able to upgrade to a themed suite and still get money back!

🎨 Don't miss the free activities such as story time, crafts, trivia, character meets and more. Check the Great Wolf app for a daily schedule of events.

🐺 Each lodge offers different activities with added fees such as rock climbing, magiquest scavenger hunt, arcade, bowling, gem mining, mini golf and more. There are passes available that include many of these that could save a little . We opted to just let our kids pick a few favorite or the lower priced activities.

🥨 There are several restaurant options on site or you can bring your own food and snacks as each room has a mini fridge. Food at the lodge can be pricey but convenient.

💦 Officially you can enter the water park at 1 p.m. the day of check in and stay all day the day you check out. We checked in at 11:30 and our room was already ready! If you come early, bring a separate bag of pool gear in case your room is not ready.

📱Buy a cheap Amazon waterproof phone holder to get photos at the waterpark.

🔉 Bring a white noise machine or app. While we didn't hear anyone in the rooms next to us, we did hear running feet and kids in the hallway while our kids were sleeping.

🐺 Don't miss grabbing free wolf ears at the gift shop!

❓Have you ever been to a Great Wolf Lodge?

I absolutely love questions about how we make adve I absolutely love questions about how we make adventures work as a family!
⠀
Here's the real deal⬇️
⠀
🏫 School: I have so much respect and admiration for those that homeschool! It's always something I keep in the back of my mind if regular schooling is ever not a good fit. But my kids go to a traditional public school. My oldest has special needs and has grown so much with school therapies. We simply make the most of each evening, weekend, and days off and pull the kids out of school for trips as well.
⠀
💻 Work: I have been a Civil Engineer for almost 19 years now. I am very blessed to have a flexible work from home job which allows me more time to adventure when my kids are off school.
⠀
⛺ Camping: An RV or camper is not in our budget and we need electricity and a real mattress for medical reasons. (I'm also a fan of indoor plumbing 😉.) So while I love the idea of camping, it's not a reality for us. This is why 90 percent of our adventures are single day trips within 2 hours of our home.
⠀
🥾 Hiking: No, my kids do not always love to hike. There is often a fair amount of whining when we head out to explore and sometimes their legs magically stop working halfway through the hike🙄. But once they are on the trail, they do have fun climbing rocks, splashing in creeks, and keeping an eye out for critters.
⠀
♥️I hope these answers help show that it is possible for the average working, traditional schooling family to still be able to explore together. I love showing adventures close to home that can be done on a tighter schedule. It takes more planning and dedication to squeeze in those moments, but it is so worth it.
⠀
❓Do you have any questions or tips on how to explore as a family?
