The Lone Ranger – M50D Maintenance
Before I pulled the truck apart, I had already replaced the non-existent shifter bushings in my 5 gear. By referring to this article in the tech library at the Ranger Station (linky) it was a pretty easy process. At the same time that I did that repair, I resealed the rubber plugs on the shift rail by following this write up also in the tech library at The Ranger Station (linky). While that slowed the leaks down quite a bit,…

The Lone Ranger – 60/14 Bolt swap – 14 Bolt Swap
I’ve been complaining about the limited slip long enough, now its time to do something about it! When looking at options to lock up the Dana 60u I had under the truck, there wasn’t anything cheap out there (besides welding it, and I don’t really want a spool). It came down to either drop a grand an go 35 spine in the rear, or drop a grand and go 30 spline. Obviously 35 spline would have been the way to…

The Lone Ranger – 60/14 Bolt swap – Moving the shocks out
In the quest for better road manners, I went ahead and moved the rear shocks out as much as I could. The end result is a more stable ride, that didn’t limit the rear flex that much (who needs flex when you’ve got lockers anyway ). Unfortunately, it still didn’t cure my wheel vibe, but it did help calm it down quite a bit. I went from my original setup: To something like this: But that wound up limiting my…

The Lone Ranger – 60/14 Bolt swap – Shocking the Rear
After killing my Rubicon Express shocks I had in the rear (I was accidentally using them as bump stops when I had a load in the bed ). I needed to swap something in that would help control the rear some and hopefully settle the sway down some. This wound up being a bit of a pain to get it dialed in but we got there. The shocks I’m are the same as what’s found on the Chevy/GMC 1500 2wd…
