Michigan 2016 – Part 1
We decided that since life had slowed down a bit (ha!) that we should take the opportunity to get out of the house for a long weekend. The wife booked us a place to stay in South Haven MI and plans were made to make it happen.
We loaded the car up and pointed it north, I am perpetually amazed at how much junk is needed when traveling with kids. Keep in mind, this is a short trip, three nights. Three. Whole. Nights.
Many hours were spent running through the flatlands of IL:
We made a brief stop in Chit-town to visit some family and show off the kids a bit. The boy got a few wiggles out chasing the dog around the yard:
We pushed through to South Haven and checked into our hotel after grabbing some fast food.
The next day, we were up early to try to grab some sunrise photos before breakfast:
After grabbing a few photos, we ran by our usual breakfast place when we’re in the area. The “Never Miss Café”
After filling up on some good food, we wandered out to Rosy Mound Natural Area. It’s a bit of a hike to the beach, but the advantage is that it tends to not be very crowded. Plus the beach is mostly sand so it won’t tear up your feet when going bare foot. We each strapped a kid on and started the hike up the dunes:
This is the Girls first trip to see a large body of water, and the Boy’s second. She wasn’t so hip on the whole experience, however, I had to keep an eye on the boy as he would just bonsai into the water as soon as he could:
Video from the beach:
The rest of the day we spent doing tourist stuff and visiting the downtown areas of the cities we passed through. Later that night, the Wife ran out to grab some sunset photos while I hung out with the kids.
