Ferne Clyffe, Bork Falls, Burden Falls, and Garden of the Gods 6-8-14
South of us got a ton or rain this past week, so we snuck down to see some of the waterfalls and such. We put a little over 350 miles on the adventure mobile.
Until we got to Big Rocky hallow at Ferne Clyffe:
On the back side of Ferne Clyffe, there is another falls called Bork’s Falls just a short hike off the road. That water crossing in the prior photo is actually the top of the falls:
I had to pose the adventure mobile at the top of the falls while I was there
Back off to more gravel roads:
Until we got to Burden Falls. This is the first time I’ve been to these falls with them actually flowing a decent amount:
And stopped for some good eats at the only local place down there:
And two lane’d it to the Garden of the Gods for a quick hike (the boy was starting to get fussy):
Then we stopped by the nearby Rim Rock Trail. This would probably be a better trail to hike in the fall/winter as the vegetation is pretty heavy around the trail blocking most of the views. There is some neat slots to squeeze though:
After that it was just a bunch of winding back roads back home…

Hi Midwest Nomad family. When you go to places that are far away from the STL area, where do you stay? Camp grounds, cabins, air bnb? Or are your trips done in a day?
Sara
Hi Heather. We typically do most of our trips as day trips in order to keep the cost down. For longer trips we often stay at hotels due to cost being lower and being able to use hotel points from work travel, but we do cabins or resorts at times as well. We just recently stayed at a cabin in a state park in Georgia and have stayed at lodges or cabins at several state parks throughout the Midwest as well.
