Where to See Sunflowers Near St. Louis This Summer

There is just something about walking through a field of bright yellow sunflowers that instantly feels like summer. Whether you are looking for the perfect family outing, a beautiful photo backdrop, or a fun u-pick flower farm, there are plenty of places to see sunflowers within a short drive of St. Louis. Since bloom times depend on the weather each year, I always recommend checking each farm’s social media or website before making the drive.

Here are some of my favorite sunflower fields near St. Louis.

Columbia Bottom Conservation Area (Spanish Lake, MO)

If you are looking for a free sunflower field near St. Louis, this is my top recommendation. The Missouri Department of Conservation plants multiple sunflower fields each year with staggered bloom times, so you often have several weeks to catch the flowers. The fields are free to visit and are usually at their best from mid-July through early August, depending on the weather.

2026 Update: As of July 7, 2026 the flowers are just starting to bloom in a few fields. The large fields are not in full bloom yet.

Area Hours: Open daily 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
Address: 801 Strodtman Rd, St. Louis, MO 63138
Directions: In North St. Louis County, take the Riverview Drive exit from I-270, then Riverview north about 2.50 miles to the area. There are sunflower signs within the conservation area to point you to the fields. There are multiple fields blooming at once typically so drive around until you see one. There is construction in the area so use caution and avoid any closed roads.

Weldon Spring Conservation Area (Weldon Spring, MO)

Another great free option from the Missouri Department of Conservation, the sunflowers are located along the road leading down to the boat ramp, making them easy to find and access. The area is in St. Charles County and is a bit further west than Columbia Bottom, but still very drivable from St. Louis.

2026 Update: Fields are starting to bloom now as of July 7

Admission: Free
Hours: Open daily 4am to 10pm
Address: 6990 S Highway 94, St. Charles, MO 63304
Directions: From Highway 40/61, exit onto Highway 94 and travel south approximately 5.25 miles. The entrance will be on the left. Follow the road down the hill, cross the Katy Trail, and continue on the gravel road following signs toward the boat ramp. The sunflower fields are along this road leading to the boat ramp.

Haudrich Farm (Waterloo, IL)

One of my favorite local u-pick flower farms that supports a great cause. All proceeds from Haudrich Farm go to Growing Hope Globally, a nonprofit fighting world hunger, so your flower purchase goes a long way.

The farm offers sunflowers, zinnias, and dahlias throughout the season with multiple staggered plantings so there is something in bloom from early summer through fall. It is fully self-serve though the farm provides scissors and shears for cutting. Both personal and professional photography are welcome at no charge.

2026 Update: As of July 5, the dahlias and sunflower petals are just starting to open while Bachelor Button’s are in full bloom

Admission: Free to visit; flowers priced by stem (sunflowers $2, zinnias $1, dahlias $3)

Address: 7903 State Route 156, Waterloo, IL 62298

Eckert’s Sunflower Experience (Belleville, IL)

In 2026 the Sunflower Festival kicks off August 1 from 10am to 2pm. Festival admission is free but tickets are required for the Sunflower Experience itself. Marian’s Place at Cliff Cave Park (Oakville, MO)

Marian’s Place is one of the most unique and meaningful sunflower displays in the St. Louis area. In 2023 alone nearly 500,000 people visited after the word spread. The sunflower field is located on an elevated plateau with sweeping views of the Mississippi River and surrounding natural habitats. Access begins at the Cliff Cave County Park pavilion parking lot.

It is free to visit, but please remember this is not a u-pick field. Please be respectful of this special place and its mission.
