Colorado 2018 – Granby area in the Mighty Merc. – Day 5
Day 5 found us kid free for a bit as the kids headed off to a playground with Nana and Papa. So the wife and I had some time to hike a bit further than we usually can with kids strapped to our backs. So we grabbed a quick breakfast and ran up to the town of Grand Lake to grab some sunrise photos:
After that we rolled back into the park to see what we could see, hoping to catch some wildlife early in the morning:
First we were lucky enough to spot a couple of Moose along the side of the road:
We continued on to the historic site again where there was a large herd of Elk bedded down in the valley. My wife nearly inadvertently had close encounter with an Elk as we wandered around a bit. Even though we started out fairly far away from the herd, two bucks started going at it, the less dominant one deiced to turn and burn which put him running in the direction of my wife. Thankfully he stopped before getting too close.
The one that was headed towards my wife:
So as you can see the trail in the background of the above photo, that dude had cut us off during his flight. We wound up just kind of hanging out until he finished eating and mover further off into the park.
Once we got back to the truck, we went over to the North Inlet trail to do the 7 mile hike up to the Cascade Falls without the kids. (Hey! I found one of my maps!):
The aspens were really popping by this point in our trip:
We had a horse escort for part of the hike:
The rest of the day was spent resting at the condo.
