The Lone Ranger – Steering update

So I’ll just start out by saying I was wrong. Heims for the street do in fact suck. After about 7k miles, there is noticeable slop in the heims I was using, and I’m pretty sure the little bit of mud I got into is what killed them. I’ve now gone with the GM TRE’s and I’m amazed that I didn’t notice how sloppy those hiems were getting sooner. For the TRE’s, its just the typical GM Stuff with Ruff…

The Lone Ranger – Re-centered H1’s and 37” take offs

I have been running on these used Nitto’s and H2’s for about the past 3k miles or so. While they worked pretty well, two of the Nitto’s were getting a bit thin so I wanted to replace them. I got a bit of sticker shock at how much the dang things were going for (about $400 per tire to my door for the 37×13.5xR17 mud grappler). I’m a little bit too low dollar to be running tires that pricey. Once…

The Lone Ranger – 2,000 mile update

Not exactly an exciting update, but I’ve passed the 2k mile mark here recently, and nothing’s killed me yet. The truck has been playing DD while I did the clutch on my Mustang, so the miles got racked up on it. Over all, I’m very happy with how its working on road. Some Hit and misses: Hits: – The brakes are friggin awesome – The track bar makes it much nicer to drive – It makes me giggle to be…

The Lone Ranger – Winch Mounting

I’ve been wheeling for some time without a winch now, never really thought I needed one (probably still don’t). But the last time I rode along at Interlake gave me a new perspective. Long story short, it was very wet from melting snow, throw in a very sideways XJ (leaning in an alarming direction), and you have yourself the makings of a situation where using a Highlift/come-a-long to recover some one just isn’t a good answer. Thankfully, there was one…

The Lone Ranger – License Light

I thought someone might need an idea for a compact light in the future. Here’s my solution to the problem: It’s a LED motorcycle license plate light. Its cheap and compact (my two requirements). We’ll see how long it holds up.. (photo is kinda dark, the whole plate is illuminated at night)
