The Lone Ranger – Misc Maintenance

I’ve been fighting a bit of an overheating problem on the Ranger on the trail as well as some highway conditions (pulling long hills for example). I’ve also known that I needed to do something about my leaking intake and valve covers. Over Memorial Day I tackled both issues. The first part of the maintenance was easy (though time consuming) and well documented on the interwebz for the lower intake manifold gasket replacement. You take this: Pull all the crap…

    The Lone Ranger – 2.5-3.0/4.0 M5OD Hybrid

Information can be found here on this setup: (Click Me) 3.40 / 2.05 / 1.31 / 1.00 / 0.79 (4.0L Engines) 3.72 / 2.20 / 1.50 / 1.00 / 0.79 (All Other Engines) I briefly had these gears in my truck until it exploded (poor rebuild, wound up sticking another 4.0 M5 in). The short period of time that I was able to drive the truck with the shorter gears in the transmission was pleasant. Other folks have pulled this…

The Lone Ranger – Chaining down the motor

Since I was having a little bit of trouble keeping the drivers side motor mount together (I think I have that resolved at this point). There was a need for a little more insurance in making sure the motor stays put. Not an original idea as I’ve seen a few other do this, hopefully it works out as well for me. For my year 4.0, ford put this cute little shock here to dampen motor vibes: Out came the cutting…

The Lone Ranger – Tranny Mount Update

Not much excitement for this post. My ‘better’ tranny mount that was based off of a control arm bushing from a mustang finally gave up the ghost: So I modified the member (again) to accept the stock ford tranny mount: I’m not real confident that this mount will last with the weight of the doubler hanging off the back. The ‘right answer here is probably to use a poly mount, but that means I’d need to redo my motor mounts,…

The Lone Ranger – New Transmission Cross member

When you do a doubler, you have to modify or make a new transmission cross member. If you’re running a decent sized lift (5” or better over stock) you can get away with hacking up a stock member. Since I’m only running about 4” of lift over stock, I couldn’t make that option work so I made up a new one using 2x3x1/4” wall stock. Instead of using the stock tranny mount (left) I nabbed the mount that I was…
